We just got back from spending two days in Monterey. Mia had fun at the Dennis the Menace Park. She enjoyed the structures and the swings, but by far her favorite was the big red "roller" slide. The slide had rollers, somewhat conveyor belt style, that gave you quite the "massage" as you rolled down. We weren't sure if she'd like it, but judging by the squeals of delight followed by the immediate run up the hill to do it again, it was a hit.
As for her first glimpse of the ocean and the beach, Mia wasn't a big fan. As soon as her feet hit the wet sand, she was done. She was lifting her toes, trying to get them out. We finally got some smiles after a few minutes holding her, as she saw our toes getting wet by the water. She'd actually probably love the ocean, if there wasn't any sand. We'll be visiting Avila Beach in a few weeks, we'll she if she's more up for the water and sand then.
While in Monterey, we were able to visit Mom's friend Peggy and her son Mahlon. Mom and Peggy had a good time reminiscing about when Mahlon and I were babies and they dressed us up alike and posed us for pictures. Luckily, Mahlon was able to escape before Mom and Peggy got the idea that it would be fun to recreate the moment with their 30something year old children. :) After the visit, it was time for the Monterey Bay Aquarium. At he first sight of the fish, Mia ran straight for them. The fish were probably her favorite animals there, followed by the otters. Personally, I liked the jellyfish.
It was a great first little vacation for Mia Yan Yan since we've been home from China.
I can't get over how thick Mia's hair looks. Ciara's is very thin and all I can do is put a barette in it that "might" stay in! lol. Ciara loves fish, too! My granddaughter has a fish tank in their room and Ciara loves to look at it. It looks like you guys had a nice time in Monterey. I'm amazed at how well these girls are doing!
